Wards up are Arboretum: Labour defence - Usually Labour, and former parliamentary candidate Joy Squires is up this year, but the Greens closed the gap a lot in 2019. A Green/ Lab battle Battenhall: Green defence. Greens gained the 2nd seat in the ward narrowly from the Conservatives in 2018. Cathedral: Labour defence. 2019 Labour parliamentary candidate Lynn Denham is up this year. The Conservatives surprisingly held their only seat in the ward in 2019, but should be a Labour hold this year. Claines: Conservative defence. The Conservatives held by 60 in May 2019, but then the Lib Dem’s gained a seat in the ward in a by election in August, also by about 60 votes. A really tight Con/ LD contest Gorse Hill: Labour defence. Always a safe Labour ward until the Conservatives made a shock gain in 2018 with an Asian candidate. Impossible to call
And then the wards that look safe
Bedwardine- safe Conservative Nunnery- pretty safe Labour- Labour have won this ward every time since 2004 on these boundaries, although the gap over the Conservatives has narrowed a bit in 2018 and 2019. Rainbow Hill- safe Labour St Clements- pretty safe Conservative. Labour have won it in the past, but the Conservatives have won quite comfortably the past few times St John- safe Labour St Stephen- safe Green now Warndon- safe Labour.
