Back on topic: Might have been more intelligent to strike an informal deal involving lots of token efforts on both sides.

Looking at Exeter, I would agree that it would be virtually impossible for Labour to lose control - The tories have two safe defences in St Loyes and Topsham and have a chance to make gains in Pennsylvania, Pinhoe, Priory and Alphington. The Lib Dems seem to have seen off the old Liberal Party to an extent and could consolidate their win in Duryard and St James which they won back in 2019. For the Greens they should be looking to add a second seat in St Davids which they won by over 600 votes in 2019. For Labour it will be a case of protecting seats rather than winning any more but I suspect even on a bad day they may only lose four which would keep them well in control.
