In Party Election Broadcasts for general elections, the Alliance were allocated their share as an Alliance.
For Party Political Broadcasts outside election times, the two parties had separate broadcasts - whether this was because of agreement between them or because the broadcasters did it that way, I am not sure.

Perhaps the media rules should be changed so that parties that form explicit pacts (whether partial or whole) should be considered as one entity for the purposes of broadcast allocation and the like. Give the parties an incentive to make distinct offers and prevent alliances from getting two bites of the cherry. Did the Liberal/SDP alliance get given joint or separate broadcasts back in the day? The ones on YouTube with the "flee for the hills" notice at the start tend to refer to the Alliance as a whole, as does some of the content. Oh for this I'd agree (though I don't know if the Exeter or Devon media does much in the way of debates and so forth) but it's the principle of the thing. I was thinking slightly more of parliament elections but plenty of parties take these decisions at higher levels without reference to the candidates - look at the Brexit Party in the election just gone. If an individual party has devolved the decision downwards that's their own matter and own responsibility.

Given that the Cleese broadcasts (at least) were for the Alliance as a whole and billed as such that would suggest that either things changed over time or the Alliance was using the allocation to get two bites of the cherry.

No they weren't. They were for the SDP, albeit that the SDP acknowledged they were part of the Alliance.

Did the Liberal/SDP alliance get given joint or separate broadcasts back in the day? Pretty sure they were treated as a single entity. They were, and not just for the general election campaigns.

When it says "SDP/Liberal Alliance" it meant the SDP.
When it said "Liberal/SDP Alliance" it meant the Liberal Party.
That was how it worked.

This confusion is yet another good reason why such pacts and alliances should receive allocations as one single entity.

seems fairly clear his views ally to some form of nativism a la Morrissey and his support for 'For Britain' . The far right seems a fitting home for faded celebrities where they can rant at the world with merry abandon.
