Easy Burnham win again. Councillor Andy Kelly from Rochdale is the LD candidate. Someone has put down Melanie Horrocks as the Green candidate on Wikipedia, but I can't find anything- owainsutton, have you heard?

It's hard to foresee anything other than a big win for Andy Burnham.
However, last time they published ward-level results. It will be interesting to see the results from places like Bolton North East and Heywood & Middleton, and to compare these with the council elections and the general election.

Andy Burnham might well appeal better to voters in those sorts of places - he's less ideological, and perhaps more crucially he's pretty local.

Apparently he's from the north.
This shocking revelation will no doubt do him no harm here.

There were some moans about the precept, but it mostly goes to the GM Fire and Rescue anyway so don't think anyone cares. Bloke I know does some work with him and says he's quite a reasonable bloke.

I did think that his reason for standing in Leigh was because it's the most Scouse constituency in "Greater Manchester" (barring maybe Makerfield).

It is funny to see the way Warringtonians react to things - one of my tutors at uni was from Warrington and got very offended if anyone called him a Scoucer or Manc. It does seem like the cultural boundaries between areas are much closer here than elsewhere - no-one in Oxford minded that Andrew Smith was a Readingite.

The parts between Manchester and Liverpool are full of tragics pretending they are from either, which annoys many of the locals greatly. Especially when you hear them trying to put on a comedy version of either accent.

Even Richard Ashcroft just falls within Wigan (I think).

But we in Reading did mind when some Oxfordshire folk tried to stand here in Reading East-see the 2020 GE result. And it's Redingensian, I'll have you know!

The Liberal Democrats have seriously given up even taking this race seriously. Nice fellow, I have known him since the early 90s. I feel for him as he only rose to the top of the Lib Dems in Rochdale becuse he was the last man standing. I admire his bounce-backability, he will need it after these elections.

A good opportunity for an enthusiastic young person. There's a councillor in Bowdon in his early 30s, isn't there?
