Labour could take a real kicking here.
They could lose half the seats they’re defending, if they have a really bad day.
Tories will definitely gain Wrenthorpe, Ossett & Horbury.
Lib Dems will definitely gain Knottingley.
Plenty of others are in play too.

Are there any dead cert Labour holds outside of Wakefield East? Extremely unpredictable.

Far too early to make predictions, here or anywhere else.

Though I’d imagine no opposition party is full to the brim with potential candidates they’d actually want to get elected, or indeed helpers.

Re: the poll, a Conservative gain is not even a technical possibility. If they won every seat being contested in May they would have 30 of 63 seats. For Labour to lose control they would need to lose all but 2 of the 19 seats they will be defending

Note that Labour lost Airedale which is in Cas to an Independent last May. I know that he has a running mate lined up for this May.

Sorry - I meant Cas Central & Glasshoughton Airedale could go, as could Hemsworth.

There is clearly a serious and endemic problem with Conservatives in the Wakefield Metropolitan Borough behaving appallingly to women Labour Party representatives.

Conservative thug Joshua Spencer was sentenced to nine weeks imprisonment today threatening his local MP, Yvette Cooper.

There is clearly a serious and endemic problem with Conservatives in the Wakefield Metropolitan Borough behaving appallingly to women Labour Party representatives. Really? Where else have such incidents occurred then, David? I can think of bullying by loud-mouthed, chicken livered Labour councillors towards female Conservative councillors, even to a point of it being raised in parliament, but not the other way about, unless confronting a liar counts as behaving appallingly. The liar made no complaint so it can't be that. Anyway, we have had considerable issues with flooding in Horbury Bridge just lately. A loss adjuster at one home in Reid Park Avenue put the damage at £100k The flooding in Horbury Bridge has been devastating for locals and their MP has visited every household in the street to check on their well being and to offer support . Their was a 400mm pump on Parklands which pumped a beck clear. It was under the control of Carillion who, as we all know, went bust. The pump, under the process of escheatment, went to the Crown Estate when Carillion failed. The Crown Estate, as is their practice, carried out no maintenance to the pump, which did not work when they inherited it. The residents complained to their previous MP about it and she said that it was Crown Estate so there was nothing she could do....or what she really meant was that there was nothing she could be bothered to do. She was really only interested in securing his vote, he told me. He lost patience with her when she swore in his sitting room in front of his children. ....even I couldn't believe that but he assured me it was true and his wife confirmed it. One resident of Reid Park Avenue is a Conservative councillor in Ossett. He got on to the council officers as his letters to his then MP went unanswered....I know how he feels....and the council sent two officers down to look at the pump. The council decided that they were going to take action and the Crown estate said they would look the other way if they did. The council entered upon the land and unsurprisingly decided that they didn't have a pump to do the job. That would be fair enough but thjey didn't leave it there. The council removed the 400 mm pump and installed a temporary pump, It was a 30mm pump....yes, THIRTY. For the benefit of carlton43, , they replaced a sixteen inch pump with a one and a quarter inch pump. What could possibly go wrong I hear you all ask? And indeed it did. The Environment Agency have since installed a temporary pump on a trailer which was hired from a plant hire company. It is only 200mm but made short work of pumping the beck clear. I'll leave you all to guess where this is heading. The assumption of management responsibility and gross negligence may be an issue and the Wakefield council tax payers will pay the price is my guess.

Credit where credit is due. I'm very impressed by the quick turnabout by Wakefield Council in the administration and pay out of the small business grants . All within a week.

It will be interesting to see which councils have fared the best on this after the dust has settled. Obviously the usual suspects will be terrible (Tower Hamlets probably has hardly any sites in the under 15k business rates category but but you can bet they've taken ages despite being given the money) but I wonder if any otherwise 'tight ship' councils will be shown to be failing- rural Tory districts, I'm looking at you.

Lucky break for Labour here. I assume that gets rid of any running mate risk in Airedale.
