I think the legislative power to rename a ward is s59 of Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. Has a whole lot of hoops to go through, particularly in the five years immediately after an LGBCE review. www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2007/28/section/59In any case, here my guess is the LGBCE will simply remake the order and/or publish a correction slip. What's the law in Wales? Mind, if they haven't sorted out the South and East wards of Neath since 1983, why start now?

The order refers to a map which spells Leytonstone correctly. A correction slip is the most likely remedy.

That must mean "The Bay" has been accepted?

Very disappointed about the Morecambe Bay bid being rejected-it would have worked very well for Lancaster and it would have ensured a sensible Cumberland UA.

Alastair Simpson on Twitter is reporting that Cumbria is to be split into two unitary authorities And Somerset and North Yorkshire to be single unitaries. Bad idea in North Yorkshire's case-it is already the largest county in the United Kingdom and its districts are large enough as they are; transport links east-west in North Yorkshire are pretty poor.

The only point in favour of a unitary North Yorkshire is the districts' proposal was atrociuous.
