I wonder if there are a group of people who have rather liked staying at home or being on furlough, and are suddenly faced with going back to work, furlough ending, and the success of the vaccine not coming up to their expectations? Labour are making the right sort of safetyist noises and while they don't say so openly there is something of an assumption that they will let furlough carry on longer, be more sympathetic to those who want to remain in the same position as long as possible. bjornhattan described it well as wanting furlough to be a permanent element of the welfare state. Of course, none of this sort of self indulgence can last forever but it may suit Labour to play along with them until September when they will vote with the government on furlough

bjornhattan described it well as wanting furlough to be a permanent element of the welfare state. What do they mean as "a permanent element of the welfare state"? Payment if ill and off work? We have that - statutory sick pay. Being paid to not go to work? That would be rather nice, I can see the attraction.

That does mean forever

Do what until we have Zero Covid for those who can't work from home? Pay people who can't work from home to stay at home until we have Zero Covid? We have that, it's called unemployment benefit. I know I'm going in circles, I've clearly missed one crucial bit of information somewhere.

Can some one explain to me why their bar chart puts the Greens in Yellow and the SNP in Green? Are they just trying to mess with our heads...

It is an obvious crap poll in that it has -4 and only +3, and it 'adds up' to 103! Useless.

Here, we have all heard of all the various techniques. I am by far the greatest sceptic on polls for this Forum. I regard them to be useful if taken over a period of months and aggregated to show clear trends (up to a point) but as individual entities I consider them to be next to useless and conveying nothing of interest when the electorate is in the present disengaged, obstructive and febrile state. I have been polled on a number of occasions from my 20s and always reply 'Labour' and 'Dissatisfied' to their questions. I can't be alone.

We know that headline poll figures are rounded, and that this frequently leads to the numbers adding up to slightly more or less than 100 and the changes adding up to slightly more or less than 0. None of this is an indication that a poll was crap, which was what you actually claimed in the post I was responding to. If you want people to understand that you think all individual polls are crap because you think they convey nothing of interest, then you need to actually say that, rather than saying something that makes it look like you think that individual polls are crap because the rounded percentages don't add up to what the precise percentages would be.

Well, the long term trend is that the Tories were on 44 +/- 3 in late May, and now they are on 36 +/- 3. And the Reclaim Party is in the random noise at the bottom
