Did CHUK screw up? I still think they did about as well as could be realistically expected. They saved all but one of their deposits! How many of their candidates were sitting MPs? Incumbents saving their deposits is no surprise.

Change UK had only three candidates, all of them sitting MPs attempting to defend their seats. They got 3.6%, 7.3% and 8.5% of the vote.

A lot of bruised egos. I mean, is there really any logical reason why we need a new strongly pro-EU , pro-market centre party, when we quite clearly already have one. A lot believed the Lib Dems were a busted flush after the Coalition and it was only a matter of time before the last lumps went down. Some of the CHUKas really, really, really didn't like the Lib Dems - in this part of the world Mike Gapes's hatred of them is especially well known (some of this stems from their record on Redbridge borough council).

Very true. It's also the case that those in the Labour party who hate the LibDems most of all are on the Right of the party.

You could argue that CUK crystalised the realisation that Remainers could no longer vote Labour, which in turn crystalised the realisation that the Lib Dem had done their time in Purgatory and needed to be detoxed. All this is both too early to say and assumes ChUK was any sort of catalyst. Things could look very different by November. It was only a month out to be fair

Not wanting to blow one's own trumpet etc, but my assessment that Swinson had to a degree "re-toxified" the LibDems stands up pretty well too.
