Broadly I totally oppose this in principle and in intent. It is anti-democratic in nature, very PC and very Snoflake in import. It should be soundly rebutted and rejected.

It's the Law Commission. The recommendations are bound to be both unhelpful and self-serving. I would say that they deserve to be ignored, but their publications are usually excellent studies in what one wants to avoid doing.

Not a single mention of more fundamental reforms in that report, like introducing proportional representation to local and parliamentary elections in England and Wales, at least via the form of Additional Member System, nor changing the £500 deposit requirement to a requirement for more signatures (e.g. 100 instead of 10).

It didn't talk about Picasso's 'blue period' either, and for the same reason: that was outside the committee's terms of reference.

Announcement from Priti Patel: "In line with the Government’s manifesto position in favour of First Past the Post, which provides for strong and clear local accountability, and reflects that transferable voting systems were rejected by the British people in the 2011 nationwide referendum, the Home Office will work with the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to change the voting system for all Combined Authority Mayors, the Mayor of London and PCCs to First Past the Post. This change will require primary legislation, which we will bring forward when Parliamentary time allows." questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2021-03-16/hcws849/

Sure, sound basis for action now.
Not that SV as a system does anything other than stink to high heaven, but reform in this direction seems needless and arbitrary.

Though not saying when this change will actually be made suggests it could be going in the next Tory GE manifesto?
(as it was in 2017, before being long grassed following the sub-optimal - for them - result)

Of greater relevance (and even more recent) was the public consultation process in which the vast majority of respondents said that the Mayor of London should be elected by AV, not FPTP. That was only 22 years ago.

SV is possibly the worst of all the systems. Will this create 25 London assembly constituencies or is the change just for the mayoral race? This would work quite nicely as Westminster seats could be grouped into 3s to create the seats.

Interesting point. The Conservatives rely on the 'London Member' top-up seats to make a decent Assembly group - otherwise there would be a very large Labour majority and no minority parties at all. So I expect they will be preserved.
