I nominate this week for the prize of the most eccentric set of by-elections this year. Come 31st December I guess it will still win. Going to be a ‘challenge’ for the prediction competition.

Coverage of Shadwell in the East London Advertiser. Of interest is that picture of Abjol Miah is credited to Rob Hoveman. He will be well known to students of the very hard left, once being a key figure in the SWP. He ran George Galloway's office in Bethnal Green during his time as the local MP and also worked for George Galloway in Bradford. He became familiar at the Town Hall when he worked for the Respect Group on the council and became close to Abjol Miah. www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/seasonal/election/lib-dem-candidate-tweeted-antisemitic-video-link-1-5880592

One does wish that a bit of due diligence was carried out on joiners from, well, any organisation with a present or past connection with Gorgeous George. It's bizarre that nobody could do a Google Search to check if he were a wrong 'un.

A cynic might note this announcement maybe came too late to make any significant difference...... by the standards of some party suspensions this is positively mercurial........

There are no grounds for such a petition. Suspension from a political party one was standing for is not grounds for an election petition, whether they were successful or not in their election campaign.
