The Bishop I've done some further digging. Here's what a Guardian article has to say about Eddie Milne, in an article from 19 April 1982 (Martin Linton, "Alliance Parties Falter in Run-up to Polls"): "Before Easter Labour, revived by the former Independent Labour MP, Mr Eddie Milne, regained the Kitty Brewster ward in Blyth Valley from the Independent Labour Party, this time in a straight fight with the SDP." ... "Kitty Brewster and Cowten [sic] ward Blyth Valley Borough Council, Northumberland Labour gain from ILP % % Labour.....................................57 (49) SDP..........................................43 (N/A) ILP...........................................N/A (51) So it seems he rejoined his old comrades, defeating the SDP in the process. He died in March 1983.

Btw, its hard to believe but Ryman also claimed to be a left winger (and actually voted for Tony Benn in the 1981 deputy election) but by the time I went to Newcastle he was almost friendless and a universally derided figure. His last years were spent in total anonymity and even his date and manner of death remains obscure. That's really odd. Even Wikipedia can't give a date or cause of death. But surely there would have been an announcement in the Commons of the death of a former member, wouldn't there?
