Ashford, Park Farm North. Trish Cornish, Ashford Independent to Conservative. This actually restored the Conservative majority on Ashford council.

do they not get on? It's the current Conservative Party - most of them could start a fight on solitary confinement...

Yep - she's listed as Independent, not Ashford Independent. Yes I had sort of answered my own question by looking at the website myself. And of course the Independents and the Ashford Independents are barely on speaking terms. If Tony's comment above about Tories is true, it's even more true of Indies.....

I doubt anyone on this forum considers it a 'shock' that a councillor with a name like Usman Ali has defected from Conservative to Labour (any more than had he defected from Labour to Conservative, or from any other party to any other party)

Councillors from a certain ethnic background do seem more likely to switch parties than is the case more generally. I think that at least is a fair observation, and can be made without indulging in unhelpful stereotyping.

Not so sure. And especially Ryhope. The sort of community shenanigans being referred to might happen in Barnes or Millfield (at a push) but Ryhope is very different in character to those. The southern half of the ward in particular (Ryhope proper) is more like Seaham than it is urban Sunderland.

It's been reported to me that North Tyneside councillor Cath Davis (Preston ward) has been suspended from the Labour Party and is sitting as an Independent, but the website does not currently agree. I’ve asked around and it wouldn’t surprise me—the response from one person who would definitely know wasn’t a denial—but whatever it is it’s not public.
