Another one in the Jewel. Vick Jenkins, who took a seat for Labour from the Greens in Shipley ward last time is now showing as an ‘independant socialist’ Not a defection but Michael Johnson of Tong has been removed as chair of Governance and Audit for some reason. He was due to stand down I believe this time so it seems a bit hard Lots of goings on in the Bradford Labour group

Last time (2019) the Greens held Shipley by over 1200 votes and missed taking Tong from Labour by 1 vote.

I notice from the excellent Liberal England blog that Lembit Opik appears to have joined the Tories. I will say nothing more.

Deselected by any chance? Former Parliamentary candidate as well Looking at her Twitter feed and other online presences, if you didn't know the assumption would be that she was a Green or LibDem from her profile. Public health consultant, very environmentalist and pro public transport.

His statement is very vague - and since when has the party of Lockdown reflected prioritising personal liberty? Economic liberalism is another matter but the Liberals and the LibDems after them are not classical economic liberals though Clegg certainly leant in that direction. The vast majority of economic liberals switched to the Tories years ago

I always liked Opik - he was a genuine libertarian, and the loss of his wing from the party is tragic. His quotes in that report are spot on. However, being introduced by Chris fucking Grayling at a “How to help the Tories win” event is *not* the way to keep libertarian liberalism alive in the country. (For clarity: I don’t currently actually know what *is* the way, but that ain’t it)

Public health consultant, very environmentalist and pro public transport. Perhaps a reflection that the Party's target audience has changed enormously in the past decade. Given the huge shift it's hardly surprising that some Party members especially in areas like the Home Counties and London feel the current incarnation of the Party is no longer for them.

I make it that there were only three worse results in 2010 (Hartlepool which was by election unwind presumably, Orpington and Edinburgh West). Given his regular appearances in the press etc, it seems difficult to avoid the conclusion that the people of Montgomery had just got fed up with being represented by Lembit Opik

Honestly, whatever the present "BoJo Party" (formerly known as the Conservatives) actually is, it sure as hell isn't "liberal" still less "libertarian". Unless, as I have said before, your definitions of that are limited to "owning the libs/lefties" culture wars and literally nothing else.

Another of those oversized egos that politics tends to attract. "No publicity is bad publicity" might have been a phrase tattooed somewhere. But also quite personable with some good intentions (my main contact was through a charity). I would sense that he's been looking for some attention - his life since 2010 has been bitty with episodes of media exposure.
