Marriage is a sacred act between one man and as many women as he likes and this must not be altered

In a Macclesfield Express article in which MP David Rutley explains why he voted against the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, Councillor Hilda Gaddum (Cheshire East, Sutton) states that she tended her resignation to the Conservative party in December. But she is still listed as a Conservative on the CEC website.

The daughter of the Chair of Labour's governing NEC, Angharad Yeo, has joined UKIP. Angharad's mother, Cllr Harriet Yeo, is Chair of Labour's NEC, President of the TSSA union and leader of the Labour group on Ashford Borough Council. Her decision to join UKIP will be a major embarrassment for Labour who rely on fear, self interest and nepotism to keep their numbers up. The main parties are simply not listening when it comes to matters such as immigration. It may be somewhat a taboo subject but it is vital that we talk about it. It is especially valid in Ashford which has suffered from a huge influx of migrants as one of the first ports of call in the UK. My daughter attends school in Ashford and I have benefited from maternity and healthcare in South Ashford. I have seen for myself the strain put on local services by the swelling population. It is not a question of race or creed, but of numbers. I am of Saudi origin, and it infuriates me when people paint those of us who believe immigration must be better controlled as in some way xenophobic. I decided to join UKIP as I strongly believe that the two party system we have in the UK is not working. I was brought up in a Labour voting family and my mother still works for the party as Chair of the NEC. But I came to decide neither Labour nor the Conservatives really represent the people anymore. They have become unaccountable to their core voters, and important issues that really matter to hardworking taxpayers are ignored or brushed under the carpet. I hope I prove that UKIP defectors are not all unhappy Tories. In fact the sort of policies UKIP promotes, from bringing back Grammar schools, to the added cost to energy bills of green policies, and of course, the pressure immigration is putting on jobs and services, are particularly pertinent to traditional Labour voters.

You know, it'd probably help UKIP if there press releases weren't quite so fucking moronic. Just a suggestion. Although obviously, 89.4% white British Ashford is a great example of how we're being overrun by immigrants.

Its a fairly good example when it was 95% only 10 years previously - a numebrical increase of 135% in that period when the White British population increased by only 8%

Offspring frequently have different political opinions to their parents, it is a fact of life. Of course, as EAL says, the remainder of the above quote is quite risible.

for there to be a defection then the defector must belong to a party.
If this is the best UKIP can waste their time on, on a non defection no wonder they are a long way from winning a seat in parliament.

Sorry Ian - but she was indeed a member of the Labour Party before defecting - described by local sources as a high flyer within the party too... I guess we ought to add the former Mayor of eastleigh and another former eastleigh Cllr - both Lib dems who today defected to UKIP

I guess we ought to add the former Mayor of eastleigh and another former eastleigh Cllr - both Lib dems who today defected to UKIP They were both kicked out of the party nearly two years ago and one got crushed when standing in the 2011 election as an Indy. Whereas the other, well you're welcome to him (or did he think he'd joined the Tories?): One of them, former Mayor Glynn Davies-Dear, has a particularly lively track-record, having got into trouble and been censured for driving a car without a car tax disc. He then lost his seat in 2012 after failing to get his nomination papers in on time. (He says he posted them several weeks in advance and only realised there was a problem when the list of nominated candidates was published, making the basic mistake of failing to check his nomination papers had been received and were all ok, which is standard practice for candidates and agents in British local elections.) Aside from switching to UKIP, he also appears on the latest Tory election leaflet As one of our Eastleigh councillors says, you're welcome to him!

I could bother to go back and find the sources... or I could decide I'm not that bothered if you believe me or not...
FWIW it was a quote from a Labour source quoted in the Kent on Sunday... and I suspect this paper has probably got cat shit all over it by now...

She was a Labour Candidate in the 2011 local elections (and the 2007). I assume you expect your candidates to be members? www.ashford.gov.uk/download.cfm?doc=docm93jijm4n2230.pdf&ver=3714
