He's not the first to cite tuition fees as a reason to join the Conservatives(Carol Shaw, Brent not so long ago). I think the reasoning last time was that the Conservatives didn't promise something they couldn't deliver(in the case of tuition fees at least).

He is not the first to lie citing tuition fees as a reason to join another party . As I have posted before , the real reason was that he was not voted as leader of the Lib Dem group on Whitehill TC and then went off in a huff .

The Preston party has been stung with a defection by a Councillor away to Labour *whilst votes were still being counted*

That was bizarre indeed. I lived in that ward for a year where Nadia was a councillor. At the time she was fond of shrieking 'Blairite class traitor' at anyone who was to the right of Stalin. Then she joins the LibDems. A lot of it was tied up with support for deselected MP Robert Wareing, known locally as the Member for Serbia and who initially announced his intent to stand as an independent with loud support from the Stewart clan. That faded away and she joined the LD's but didn't defend her seat.

But who is the defector you refer to dok b? When did Preston have an election?

The Preston defection at the count was around 1999/2000 or so if I remember rightly.

So why is dok b bringing it up now?? Many areas have been "stung by defections" at or on the morning after counts (it has happened before the election sometimes!) In West Cornwall these events occur fairly regularly (sorry, slight exaggeration - two or three times). We had one in East Devon in 1995, which kept the traditional one-party Conservative state alive here. It almost went NOC with a Lib Dem - Indy administration.

Why has this story been resurrected from 7 months ago ? Perhaps the Sun did not like him being praised for chasing and catching a burglar .

Ajit Atwal has apologised for being naive for posing for the photo according to the BBC. The Labour leader of council has said he should resign. I csn't tell anything from the only two paragraphs of the Sun story I can read.

As mentioned the story is in fact 7 months old and has been superceded in the local press by the story of him chasing and apprehending a local burglar .

I'm confused! The links provide me with three examples of councillors (from 3 different parties) posing with weapons but without any real explanation of why .......

No, I think the burglar story has now, in turn, been superceded by this, if reading the comments is a guage: www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-Telegraph-comment-Bizarre-judgment-shown/story-20858643-detail/story.html
