sorry I think I confused Charnwood constituency with North West Leicestershire which is a heathen offence. I believe Labour hold the Thurmaston parish council and the county division swings between Labour & the Tories though the boundaries were redrawn rather more favourably for the Tories in 2017

A heinous offence rather than a heathen one. NW Leicestershire is a very volatile constituency which went from being quite strongly Tory to fairly decent Labour majority and now suddenly has sprouted an enormous Tory majority. It tends to behave very similarly to S Derbyshire next door. Both areas had historically non-militant mineworkers. could be worse I guess at least I've never confused them with Harborough

It seems like a night of strong results for us, apart from the one seat where we were starting from a close second!

Good result for the LDs for sure. They'd be strongly in the running in Cambridge as a whole if they replicated that It's not such a good result given the byelection arose from a Labour internal dispute. The Lib Dems are still 'good at byelections' and have lots of deployable campaigners in Cambridge; Petersfield is an easy ward to campaign in. Also the absence of the undergraduates now helps the Lib Dems.

It's also the ward where Cambridge CLP has its office Good old Alex Wood Hall, spent many an hour there in the early 1990s. As anyone knows who arrives at Cambridge Station, it is the home of a famous university: Anglia Ruskin University which is based in Petersfield ward.
