Bloody hell. Read the entire thread. Looks as if a couple of posts have been deleted - no doubt referring to Nadawi's influence on YouTube?

Looks like. Basically Zahawi phoned them up and threatened them to all intents and purposes when their data showed that the election was too close to call.

A private company being threatened by the Government not to publish legally releasable information and forcing said company to manipulate future information to make the Government look better is highly concerning.

Particularly when the threats are coming from a Government minister who was the co-founder of YouGov

Absolutely, though as with a few others I am wondering why this is all only coming out *now*.

Absolutely, though as with a few others I am wondering why this is all only coming out *now*. The Zahawi phone call is lifted from Tim Shipman’s 2017 book of the election “All Out War”, so isn’t new. The only somewhat new thing is AFAIK it’s the first confirmation of the call taking place; a lot of Shipman’s claims were dismissed at the time of publication.

Absolutely, though as with a few others I am wondering why this is all only coming out *now*. It was five years ago, so I'm wondering if there was a contractual obligation, such as an NDA, that's just ended. Will be interesting to see if any thing else comes up - especially from other pollsters.

Which doesn't address at all the claim that Zahawi threatened the company. An interesting omission.

IIRC from reading Shipman’s book at the time it was published that was indeed the spirit it was taken in at the time. Is Stephan Shakespeare still active on Twitter, he blocked me ages ago, but I seem to remember him Tweeting about it back then.

It was good for labour that yu gov tweaked it. If they did di not the lsbour right would not csmpaign for labour out side the CLPs of Labour right MPs they did not believe Labour could not winwith sociaist policies They still lost but it was the biggest trans formationof politic al support during an election campaign since polls began in two short years labour increaced the labour support from 31 to 39

The first public acknowledgement that I can remember that polling firms routinely engage in herding.

The first public acknowledgement that I can remember that polling firms routinely engage in herding. Ironically, it was herding that led to Survation not publishing the one poll in the 2015 election that showed an accurate outcome.
