My local council, Bradford MDC, appear to win first prize for publishing SOPNs the sensible way, ie. all on one webpage. But in terms of historical election data, they only go back to 2002 - which I would imagine is relatively good actually compared to other council websites. But it tells us nothing we don't already know. Ideally it should go as far back to the dawn of time as possible, which is something we should lobby for. How far back does your local council website go - and does it have any information which isn't yet showing on the Elections Centre website? Another chance to praise or shame your local council's electoral information services. Essex County Council appear to have their election results online dating back to 1967 1965, which is nice. cmis.essexcc.gov.uk/essexcmis5/PublicDocuments.aspxIs there any advance on this? |

Essex County Council appear to have their election results online dating back to 1965  St Albans council also goes back to 2002. I don't particularly look to the local council to provide results going back to before I was born though I would obviously welcome it if they did. St Albans is certainly one of the better councils in terms of providing info for elections (and the SOPNs in a single pdf, speedy publication of nominations, results etc) and compares very well with other councils in Hertfordshire, most of which are a disgrace |

I've noted long series of historical election results on the Allerdale and West Oxfordshire websites before now.
When I first started LEAP in 2002 South Lakeland council didn't have a website. I had to write to them to get their results.

Incidentally, odd that the spreadsheet is using the American convention for dates with 6/14/84 being given as the date of the election. Makes me wonder whether an American was in charge of entering the data into the computer system.

Does anyone know why there was a double by-election in Newham, Little Ilford in 1984? (Stephen Timms was the successful Labour candidate). Incidentally, odd that the spreadsheet is using the American convention for dates with 6/14/84 being given as the date of the election. Makes me wonder whether an American was in charge of entering the data into the computer system. They probably entered the dates properly, but the spreadsheet program was set up to display dates backwards, and the spreadsheet was saved in display format. I've noticed if I'm not paying attention Excel will impose its own beliefs on the data I type in, converting somebody's address from 12-13 High Street to 13 December High Street. It even does it importing raw data, I've ended up writing bodge upon bodge upon bodge on CSV export code to get around Excel's data bludgening. |

It says 'resignations' in the London Residuary Body publication. |

It's good that by-elections are at least mentioned, something that you won't find on the Elections Centre website at the moment. Are there any London boroughs which display results predating 1964? |

Doncaster Council's website contains election results going back to 2009 and includes GEs, referendums, borough council, parish/town councils, mayoral elections, PCCs, EU Parliament and neighbourhood plans: www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/the-council-democracy/election-results-for-doncasterThe reason it doesn't go back further is the website was completely revamped around 2009 and I guess no one thought to put historic results on the site. The name doesn't ring any bells, but then again I am terrible with names and better with faces. I do recall someone telling me about the politics of Greater London at one point, but I never got the chance to ask their names. I do have a bit of news though related to this that could help and that is on June 18th 2018, I am moving to Llanrhystud (as my grandparents have decided to downsize) therefore it is entirely likely I could bump into them (purely by accident) |

Ashford have access to "archived"(!) election results all the way back to 2003. As I have recently mentioned on the Ashford history thread, I have been trying to get by-election results from the 1980's from them and they have no record whatsoever- they helpfully told me they have results from the all-outs which was hardly the problem, but no record of any sort about by-elections so long ago that I stood in some of them. They had thought there would be a paper record at the back of a filing cabinet somewhere, but some over-zealous officer had obviously thrown them all out without establishing that they had been put online first. I can't say too much as until fairly recently I think I had my own paper records for these..
edit.. I wonder whether anybody else seeking historical data not shown on the website have tried contacting the council electoral department directly to get the info, and with what results?( I would obviously not have approached the council at this stage if they had elections on May 3rd, and I had thought having been a former senior councillor might have helped, or maybe not, but it seems it wasn't lack of willingness to help, the data simply no longer existed.)
