Maybe, but I see no reason why if he chooses to he couldn't see out his term at K&C while officiating at Hampstead. It's not exactly the other end of the country, is it? Obviously he would resign when the seat next comes up,and maybe a by-election is possible sometime, but no reason why he can't get to meetings and do enough work as a councillor to remain justifiably in office until he chooses to go.

I can now confirm that Liz Ashton is the Labour candidate in Berkeley Vale (Stroud). The Conservatives have announced their candidate on Facebook - someone called Lindsey Green. I haven't seen anything from the Greens or LibDems, although I would not be too surprised if neither stood a candidate.

Casual vacancy in Coxford ward, Keith Morrell has resigned as a Southampton City Cllr. His seat is next up in 2022. For the avoidance of doubt, yes I am cheering! By-election set for 14th March.

There is 1 by-election in the last week of January together with 10 so far during February and 2 already in March. There are in addition 19 identified vacancies where the date of the forthcoming election is not yet known, although at least 12 of these probably will not be filled until May. There are also 4 reported impending by-elections but sometimes such vacancies do not materialise. A separate thread has been established for vacancies which will definitely not be filled for a number of reasons, mainly the "six month" rule, until May.

There is going to be a by-election in the Leith Walk ward in Edinburgh.
Labour Councillor Marion Donaldson is standing down apparently due to ill health. She was first elected in this ward at the 2015 by-election, which was the first(I believe) and only 1 of 2 by-elections in Scotland to have multiple vacancies up.
It's was elected as a 4 member ward with 2 SNP, 1 Labour and 1 Green. Lewis Ritchie formerly of the SNP is now an independent following a scandal in which he was accused of Sexual Harassment.
Should be an interesting fight between Labour and the SNP due to both of them being in the Administration although I would predict an easy SNP pick up based on the Council result in 2017.
SNP - 34.5% Lab - 22.5% Gre - 19.7% Con - 14.4% Lib - 3.7% Ind (2) - 5.2%

Same here anytime I have spoken with Marion in the past she has struck me as really nice and pleasant which isn't anywhere near guaranteed with City of Edinburgh Councillors, of any shade. Would seem though that tensions within the Edinburgh Labour group (a lot that going around the Administration these days) combined with her ill health are what have seen her resign from the council at least according to the Evening Times. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/edinburgh-labour-councillor-quits-amid-reports-of-internal-party-tensions-1-4863843

I have not yet found out what the nature of her final (brief) illness was, nor indeed her exact age: I think she was about early-70s, but I haven't found her exact age from either googling or from looking at my old scrapbooks of newspaper cuttings. Update: 75, and lymphoma (cancer). It may have been long-term but she seems not to have told anybody about.

From my work address, I emailed Robert Thompson at his RBKC council address last Friday, politely asking if he had had second thoughts since his interview with the Camden New Journal last July.
Haven't had a reply.
