The candidates of the left parties will have received over 50%, what means, that the person, who comes into the RunOff against CDU, should win easily despite the large distance.

One reason for the weak performance of the GREENS-woman might be, that she is "teacher" of "eurythmics"... The electorate weren't "Right by her side" then.

With nearly all votes counted it is clear, that the RunOff will take place in 2 weeks between the CDU-man (32%) and the GREENS-woman (17%).

Stuttgart will go to the polls tomorrow/today. TheGreens-woman stood down and her party refused to support any candidate officially; also SPD, although (or: because?) a controversial ex-SPD Independent will run against the CDU-candidate. Once more the left will be split, as TheLeft and its local ally kept their candidate in the race.
An OpinionPoll by an institute, that underpolled the CDU-man and overpolled the GREENS-woman in the first round, published these numbers (n=900):
40-47 CDU 31-38 exSPD-Ind. 17-23 SÖS (endorsed by TheLeft)

"PreLiminary FinalResult": Dr.Nopper = CDU, Schreier = ex-SPD Independent, Rockenbauch = SÖS&TheLeft

The result will give some hope to the regional CDU to win back BaWü.

The early state election in Thuringia has been put back to the 26th of September, the same day as the federal general election, the City Assembly and district elections in Berlin and a Landtag election in Mecklenburg-VP. It had previously been announced for the 25th of April.
Whether the elections in Rhineland-Palatinate and BaWü go ahead as planned in March must now be in some doubt, but unlike in Thuringia which last voted in autumn 2019, those are coming to the end of a full 5-year term so couldn't be delayed by more than a couple of months.

On an US-forum it was claimed, that Merkel's centrism let CDU&CSU perform well in the cities. But anyone, who is aware, how few cities have a CDU-mayor, knows it better and will not be surprised by these DeViations in federal elections (measured at WestGermany without WestBerlin [100%], of all eligible voters):

That list really shows how much of the urban population is concentrated in NRW. A few of those places are cities where even the most Germanophile foreigner/ iainbhx will never visit!

Indeed, I have visited 26 of them, 18 of them overnight. The most significant omission is Hannover which somehow just never seems to be visited. I have absolutely no intention of visiting six of them or the one that doesn't exist. I would not recommend Oberhausen to my worst enemy and Leverkusen is Billingham without the charm. I was going to knock Lübeck and Kiel off that list last summer. Wiesbaden is the one most likely to get a visit next, how I've managed to not go there is beyond me considering the number of times I've been to Mainhattan or Mainz and I've heard good things about it.

I suppose most outsiders might go to Leverkusen to watch the local football team.

Both were intellectually on the right side - yet, there is no greater difference possible than between GOETHE from Frankfort and DOSTOEVSKI from Wiesbaden...

Apropos NRW-cities - their trends (RuhrPott vs. nonIndustrial/bourgeois with colleges) are quite remarkable: The left parties (SPD, Greens, Left, AnimalProtectionists, Pirates, Feminists, LaRouche and the satirical DiePartei) once again compared to WestGermany without WestBerlin (=100%), measured at - eligible votes: - valid votes:

However, that doesn't feel like it should count.

I suppose most outsiders might go to Leverkusen to watch the local football team. Leverkusen is a bit like Warrington North writ large. Complete with awkward relationships with nearby cities.
