The nightmare coalition of ANO+SPD is stuck at exactly half the seats now, so the Czechs may yet be spared that at least. Unfortunately loony extremists on both ends of the horseshoe are in.

The ideological positions CEE parties try to project are in far too many cases a smokescreen and this is very much the case for ANO, which is not some benign pro-EU centrist 'mass movement' (lol) but a personal vehicle for an oligarch using vague populist nonsense rhetoric to take power for himself which has hoovered up votes from disgusted people who would otherwise vote for parties that are much more obviously extreme. All in all, a hilariously superficial analysis and an example of all the ways Westerners trying to comment on CEE politics usually slip up.

A curiosity spotted whilst watching the ski jumping on Eurosport- one of the winning candidates for the ODS is former world champion ski jumper Jakub Janda.
