This seat might be safe for the Gnats next time round as Conservatives are now the main challenger, but LDs will still put a lot of effort into it as this is one of the few seats in Scotland where they haven't become totally irrelevant (yet).
When there was a Lochaber council, it had a fairly decent number of Labour councillors, I suspect mainly in Fort William. It was said to be the most Labour-inclined part of the seat when Kennedy represented it.
You are both right. The Lochaber area does have good Labour support but it's been willing to support Charles Kennedy and some may have voted Tory tactically this time given the lines on maps issue. And Laboyr have never taken this seat. In the Highlands though nothing can ever be ruled out.

The Conservatives won Ross & Cromarty in 1979 (a seat with quite different boundaries to this I assume) but for the time being I think the SNP can hold due to split opposition, while in Argyll and Inverness the Conservatives are somewhat closer.
