Swinson voted in favour of the tuition fees increase, though. We need to disassociate ourselves from that as much as possible, and having her as leader probably wouldn't help in that regard (especially as it's only been two years since the coalition).
In time, she might be a great leader. Farron has had a somewhat rocky performance over the last few weeks but he is a first-rate campaigner on the whole and suited for the job at the moment. Constitutionally, there must be a leadership election 1 year (or 2, if the federal board defers it) after this GE, so he may be challenged then. I certainly don't expect him to step down beforehand.
Conservatives have a shortlist of two, both of whom are sheep farmers! Cllr James Airey who is on South Lakeland District and Cumbria CC, and a Cllr from Eden who is less well known (sorry I've forgot his name).
It's a career move. When the sheep misbehave they just have to shout 'I'm a Conservative MP' and you can see the terror in their eyes.
