Odd move. Of course John Pugh has returned to the council in Sefton which I assume is to try and bolster the LibDems a little - they have no seats left outside Southport and lost three to defection. I assume it's the same reasoning here though Hughes was never on the council. Pugh was there when the LibDems were the largest party in Sefton.

One thing that surprised me in the GE is that Labour won a bigger majority in Cambridge than here.
Hughes obviously did well to keep the swing down but it’s interesting that this is more marginal than seats where Labour won by under 2,000 votes in 2015 like Ealing Central & Acton, Hampstead & Kilburn and Westminster North.
