I should say how grateful I am to David Boothroyd for the Hansard link. The prior phrase ("Listening to [Dicks] opining on the arts is rather like listening to Vlad the Impaler presenting Blue Peter") is lovely, as is his defence of the phrase - "it was artistic." And spoken in defence of the RSC against attacks from philistines who he rightly said could be found on both sides of the House - a noble cause. Respect to Mr Speaker Weatherill for declining to rule it un-Parliamentary.

Its largely a correction - the 2010 Tory share and majority were both artificially high and unsustainable in a seat with such a large amount of social housing. Remember the Tories never even broke 50% here in the 1980s. For sure the growth of the student population (and somewhat connected, the ethnic minority population) in Hatfield has led to some trending back to Labour there, but keeping them down at around 20% in a seat like this (likewise Hemel) was never going to be sustained
