Also, according to his Twitter account, he supports the UK helping Refugees (I think that we already help them enough and that they should stay near their home countries without being encouraged to come to Europe where their culture is completely alien and where it can only lead to trouble). I want to vote UKIP but fear it could be a wasted vote and could lead to a split vote with Labour getting in ... which would be a fate worse than death. What are other UKIP supporters doing? If only Carswell had remained Independent; If only the Tories had chosen someone who supported leaving the EU, then there wouldn't be this dilemma. I feel like Clacton has been badly let down.
I would definitely vote for the UKIP candidate in this seat for the very reasons you've given. There is zero chance of Labour getting in here - it will be Conservative or UKIP (almost certainly the former but I wouldn't let that worry you re: a wasted vote - in as much as its a two horse race the two horses are Tory and UKIP.)
To give you a bit of context I am a reasonably longstanding member of UKIP who is now letting my membership lapse. I'm voting for the Conservative candidate in my constituency where UKIP has no candidate but would still vote UKIP in other places/circumstances ie. where doing so would not risk letting in a Labour or Lib Dem MP
