You have to ask what the point is of the polls at the top of these by-election threads, when 10 people have voted for a LibDem Gain from Labour? Clearly those ten people have a ridiculous Pythonesque type of humour. Know nothing about elections. Are hopeless optimists or just plain stupid. I want Labour to win and I think the Conservative party do too. That will make sure Corbyn stays in place until the general election. I think it's not totally impossible that we could have a comedy result where someone wins on 25% or something in which case it's not totally out of the question the Lib Dems could be the beneficiaries. But, the chances are much lower than 10%.

Maybe Nuttall didn't want to give his home address in Bootle or Liverpool in case it became a target for opponents of UKIP. It took me 10 seconds of googling to find his real home address on the 2014 north west SOPN so I doubt it.

This is a clear attempt to mislead the electorate. But also a bizarrely petty one...

Maybe Nuttall didn't want to give his home address in Bootle or Liverpool in case it became a target for opponents of UKIP. His home address in Bootle was published when he was nominated for the EP in 2014. Surely any opponents of UKIP are more likely to be in Stoke right now? Nuttall is making himself more of a target not less.

Maybe Nuttall didn't want to give his home address in Bootle or Liverpool in case it became a target for opponents of UKIP. So he just has [Address in Bootle Consitituency] on the nomination form and no one would care, because everyone knows he's a Big Bootle Meff. However, now he's been a plonker and created an issue out of nothing. It's gone from "not local" which everyone knew anyway, to looking very dodgy because he hasn't even rented the place.

"Michael Crick Verified account @michaellcrick Amazing. Big by-election in Stoke. Three weeks to go. Yet today Labour say candidate Gareth Snell is spending "all day" at work on day job" twitter.com/MichaelLCrick/status/826726295811870720 I think he just doesn't want to talk to Michael Crick!

He has always struck me as a bit slow on uptake since the one occasion I crossed swords with him at Manchester Airport in 2014.....it was kind of wooden swords I have to say No not really. I have spoke to him a couple of times but that is all.

The original Michael Crick tweet, which was retweeted by a number of politicians, has now been deleted:

I think he just doesn't want to talk to Michael Crick! And who could blame him? The guy has a job. This has obviously been dropped on him pretty quickly and he might need to square things up at work before he can get out on the ground. It's no big deal at all. .....unless I was up against him. It is is pretty hard to use "guy actually has a paid job" against him in an election campaign.

Those who actually campaigned for Brexit were complete and utter dullards. If only they had listened to your sagacious advice, Britain might actually be leaving the EU.

I think you will find that Nuttall has rented the property. Agents leave stuff up on Rightmove to encourage customers - the more properties they seem to have, the more people will come to them. Generally three quarters of property "available to let" on Rightmove is nothing of the sort.
I say this as someone who was trying to rent a property not long ago.

Why didn't the berk use his agent's address? EDIT: Looks like Nuttall indeed rented the property, which was not immediately removed by the agent on Rightmove. It is now being stated that he has just moved in. As long as the signed rental agreement predates submission of the nomination forms, however, I can't see any action being taken. If UKIP are excluded this would be interesting, though I assume they'd just select someone else like Bill Etheridge or another Midlands UKIP politician.
