On another note, did we miss that Mike Gravel has thrown his hat into the ring?

Susan Sarandon has made a donation:
Gravel was encouraged to enter by what The Washington Post describes as “two left wing teenagers” with the sole purpose of qualifying for the first debates and bringing a “green” perspective as none of the other candidates are talking enough about the environment. I suspect Sarandon’s donation is to help him meet the DNC’s debate qualification rule of receiving donations from 65,000 individuals, 200 of whom must be from at least 20 States. He’s now run a Twitter poll which has told him he should be “in it to win it”, but the assumption is that’s actually only to meet another DNC qualification rule that attempts to weed out what in their judgment are non serious candidates.

Not content with the final chapter of his political life being a successful vice-presidency, Biden's decided it all has to end with yet another failed presidential campaign.

The only remote possibility is Stacy Abrams who lost the Georgia Governor’s race last year, and yesterday ruled herself out of challenging David Perdue for the Senate seat.

There's also Joe Sanberg and Bill de Blasio; Michael Bloomberg will reportedly reconsider if Joe Biden does badly enough. Steve Bullock has an announcement due in a couple of weeks' time, and there may be more no-hopers emerging from the woodworks.

I don't buy the view that many others have that he'll simply crash and burn. Biden now has the gravitas of being an ex-vice president (and a fairly popular one at that), whereas in his previous two runs he was simply a vaguely likeable and somewhat gaffe-prone senator from one of the smallest states in the union.
