And just to add that mboy has been invaluable in the past year for their scientific knowledge and level headed approach to the pandemic.

Never understood why mboy came to a psephological site to fight culture wars. Never contributed anything at all, let alone anything of value to the main part of this site. Won’t be missed.

In their defence, however frustrating I found mboy's posts on "wokeism" - and, Christ, are found them infuriating - they were published in the "correct" chats. They always added a lot to the conversation wherever they were posting. Sometimes it's good to get angry, and for that reason, I will miss mboy. Wish you all the best in the future!

Sorry to see you go. This place does have a bit of a Hotel California thing going on (you can log out but not leave!) so taking this step is understandable.

A forumite who can be both insightful and infuriating, there are far, far worse track records on here and although certain paradigms of analysis will not be missed you most certainly will be.
Health and happiness to you, and who knows your adventures may lead you back.

I've got an announcement. This has been planned for some time. As the saying goes, "It's not you, it's me..." I've been posting here and predecessors since 2004. It's been great. This is one of the best debating/discussion/information groups in the UK. I mean, I don't actually know any others, but I assume it must be true But if the last year has taught me anything, it's that I need to spend more time interacting with friends and family. (In a sense you are family - in the sense that half of you suck and I hate being around you Just kidding! Mostly.) This means less time on the internet, and this site is most of my internet time. I've tried doing "less" time here, but the problem is that so many of you are just WRONG and need correcting...I just can't keep at "less". So like a drug that I'm addicted to, I realised some months ago that I needed to step away properly, for it to work. The timing of the Covid re-opening after this weekend, coincident with the elections last week, is the ideal red line. Some of you will be glad to see the back of me; others less so. But do all keep going. I may return in a few years, or maybe I'll glance in when something big happens. Keep putting the world to rights. I hope between you you can find a solution to the proper mess the world is in right now. Now, so long, and thanks for all the fish. The Meader Boy Good luck , and I understand exactly where you are coming from. All I can say is that I tried to do the same and it lasted less than a month before I cracked. It probably needs a substantially longer break than that for it to work, and if you think one day you'll just look back in for a brief moment, you'll be done for.

mboyMore than once, we Conservatives on here wondered why you weren’t one of us, until you said something that explained why! Still feel bad that you once came so close to getting to the VUKPOTY final but didn’t quite make the cut. Enjoy your break and I hope you’ll be back.

I have a Mini-Me lurking somewhere, but I'm not sure.

To be fair my violin teacher (who was the father of Christine McVie) taught my mother the viola. I have never tried the viola and in any event I was pretty awful at the violin before I broke my wrist playing rugby which did make playing the violin a bit harder.

I knew him in his later years and played in an orchestra with him. Lovely fellow, sadly missed, and also had a lot of involvement with the main orchestra that I play in and help run, but long before my time there.

Hi there all.
So i’ve been registered and reading the site for a while. I’d say I have an above average interest in politics, doubt I could call myself a psephologist but think I’ve learned useful things here that you wouldn’t in general political news. Enjoyed reading discussions about particular constituencies, elections, boundaries, polls, regional issues etc and it’s a great way to keep up with election results like the other week. Have felt an urge at times to post recently even if just to ask questions so thought I’d give an introduction post a go.
For myself I’m based in the East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow constituency have been pretty much my whole life, family background Glasgow on one side Yorkshire on the other. Not aligned to any particular political party, although I did some volunteer work for Better Together which is my main experience of political activism, so as you’d guess I do have a particular interest in Scottish politics and the never ending constitutional debate.
So anyway let’s see if I can give posting a go ha.

Now onto the main question: railways or real ale?
