Have you tried Michel Thomas's language courses? My copy of his intermediate course arrived the day before my son was born so I've been a bit short of time to listen to it but I've heard good things. Don't be put off if you struggle with it, by the way. They definitely work but don't work for everyone (they're not for me). If you do struggle, PM me and I'll send you some names of alternatives.

Bayrou has endorsed Macron. edit: in fact he has offered to form an "alliance". I think that translates as a president cohabiting with a prime minister who will have to co-habit with a legislature!

Thanks, I may do that. At the moment I'm just trying to absorb as much as possible from multiple sources - podcasts, youtube, various online courses, as well as talking with native speakers. My impression of the Thomas recordings is that they're potentially quite good for drilling stuff that might otherwise not stay in your head, though as he's not a native speaker I'm not relying very much on him for pronunciation (pronunciation is probably the bit that I have least trouble with anyway).

The Michel Thomas courses are good, I use them to top up my Spanish from time to time. Duolingo is also a fantastic resource: this may be the best approach if you've a young child. I've never tried the Pimsleur stuff but hear good things.

If you want a handle on grammar, the Colloquial series is excellent.

Unsurprisingly Maron accepts Bayrou's proposal of an alliance.

Macron has presented an economic plan that includes tax cuts and firing civil servants, which could cost him leftist support, and Green candidate Yannick Jadot has endorsed Hamon. The polls published today are the first to take these developments into account.

Marine Le Pen:
"I want to say to the civil servants, who are being asked to use State powers to monitor opponents, to organize against them persecutions, twisted coups, or state cabals, to not participate in such abuses. In a few weeks, this political power will be swept away by the election. But its civil servants will have to bear the burden of these illegal methods. They put their own responsibility at stake. The State we want will be patriotic."

I have added the changes and the second run-off scenario. Others is down to 3% after Green candidate Yannick Jadot (at 2%) dropped out and endorsed Hamon, who gains 2%. Poutou drops from 1% to 0. Its important to note that Fillon hasn't collapsed and is definitely still in with a chance.

Christophe Caresche, who leads the c. 50 "Reformists" among the PS MPs (the SoLib right wing), has said that none of them will campaign for Hamon. 20 of them had already declared they wouldn't after Hamon's primary victory and now the rest follows. Marseille PS bigwig Christophe Masse announced today that he joins En Marche! and hopes to become NA candidate in Marseille.

Makes sense for centrists to join a centrist party - given France doesn't have one this is a logical development. Wonder if any centrists from the right bloc will join him? I would spoil my ballot in person with a choice between any of the current front runners.

You really can't see any difference between Macron & Le Pen?! I imagine Merseymike finds Macron too economically right wing to vote for. I'm sure he views Le Pen as worse but refuses to vote for somebody with views too different to his own.
