The line graph represents local elections (met borough and Halton unitary) and the bar charts everything else - 2005, 2010 and 2015 General; 2004, 2009 and 2014 European; 2012 and 2016 Police and Crime Commissioner first preferences. It does not include Liverpool's existing elected Mayor as this only covers the city itself rather than the wider CA area.
For Halton's local elections there are varying patterns of wards up each year. I have adjusted for this by taking the "last known" result in each ward. Not perfect I know, particularly when mixing wards that did and didn't have local polls on General Election days, but it's better than not including them.
There is a bit of finagling around the edges for GE figures where the Weaver Vale parliamentary constituency overlaps between the CA and beyond, and for the 2016 PCC result the Tory and Labour figures are ever so slightly inflated as Halton Borough Council (who were the PARO for Cheshire in both elections) could only give me the total votes rather than first preferences broken down by local authority. Of course if anyone has the full breakdown for Cheshire I would be very grateful (and I can update the graph).
Merseyside, on which the CA is largely based, was one of only seven English counties outside London to vote Remain (and the only one that is consistently Labour-leaning), with a Leave vote of just 48.00%.
For the CA there really is nothing worth seeing here; the electoral contest will be as interesting as dysentery and the winning candidate every bit as appealing.
You do graphs for election results, we're going to get in very well around here.
