A seat taking in Kidderminster, Fleetwood and the Orkneys could be Wyre, wyre & the Wyre. If you added Warrington as well it would be Wyre, Wyre, Wyre and the Wire. Or shorten to Ductile Banks?

The Stoke seats could be re-named Etruria Knype Trentham Stoke is a weird one, internally many of the residents refer to the original 6 towns and if you went down that road, you'd have
Burslem and Tunstall Hanley and Stoke-upon-trent Fenton and Longton, or if you, if follow the Arnold Bennett route, Longton.

I know I've said it before but please could the Scottish Boundary Commission keep names as short as possible within reason. East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow - whats wrong with East Kilbride? Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East - whats wrong with just Cumbernauld? The constituency covering Inverness should just be Inverness. I like names like Moray and Inverclyde. The worst names are "Paisley & Renfrewshire North" and "Paisley & Renfrewshire South" . Effectively the two Paisley constituencies extended to include all of Renfrewshire Council but the confusion is that the names infer that the whole of Paisley is in both constituencies. There is also confusion in that the names refer to Renfrewshire Council that covers Mid-Renfrewshire and not East Renfrewshire Council or Inverclyde Council (West Renfrewshire). On the existing boundaries I would have retained the simple Paisley North and Paisley South titles. The more logical boundary would to have put the whole of Paisley and Linnwood into a Paisley constituency and the rest of the council area into a Renfrewshire or Renfrewshire Mid constituency.

How would you respond to 'Paisley is shorter and a better known name and location to the intelligent public' as a sole argument? By arguing that North Renfrewshire/South Renfrewshire is a more accurate description of the two constituencies. For outsiders a quick google search of "Renfrewshire" would clarify the location of either constituency. But as Paisley is far more meaningful to far more people it is more sensible to use it. Why are you obsessing about accuracy of description? The public just want a vote of equal value and to have a name for their seat. The external public just want to know roughly where it is as the name comes in on the night without wasting time thinking about it or looking it up.

That would produce a fascinating multi-party contest with not only Conservatives and Labour in contention but significant support in places for the Liberal Democrats, Liberal party, UKIP, Independent Kidderminster Health Concern (or whatever they call themselves these days), SNP and US Democrats (not so much the GOP) I would expect the result of the election to go down to the wire..

Can anyone explain to me why there is a seat called St Ives despite the fact that the town is the 3rd largest in the seat, with a population half that of penzance and 500 less than Helston, it should be called Penzance and if anyone has a problem with that then call it Penwith

I think there is something to be said for using the Australian naming system where there is no obvious seat name. I'm a big fan of seats like Bennelong and particularly Corangamite, especially when it was represented by Darren Leicester Cheeseman. I've considered this before but I'm not sure the good burghers of Kirkcaldy would like to find themselves in the constituency of 'Brown'. I might not mind so much my home constituency being 'Ewing'. I'm sorry, but as an Australian Psephologist that is totally wrong, to qoute the AEC Guidelines for naming federal electoral divisions: Naming after persons In the main, divisions should be named after deceased Australians who have rendered outstanding service to their country. When new divisions are created the names of former Prime Ministers should be considered. Federation Divisional names Every effort should be made to retain the names of original federation divisions. Geographical names Locality or place names should generally be avoided, but in certain areas the use of geographical features may be appropriate (e.g. Perth). Aboriginal names Aboriginal names should be used where appropriate and as far as possible existing Aboriginal divisional names should be retained. Other criteria The names of Commonwealth Divisions should not duplicate existing State Districts. Qualifying names may be used where appropriate (e.g. Melbourne Ports, Port Adelaide). Names of divisions should not be changed or transferred to new areas without very strong reasons. When two or more divisions are partially combined, as far as possible the name of the new division should be that of the old division which had the greatest number of electors within the new boundaries. However, where the socio-demographic nature of the division in question has changed significantly, this should override the numerical formula. So, in other words apart from Sydney, Brisbane, Ballarat, Bendigo, Melbourne, Melbourne Ports, Port Adelaide, Perth, Fremantle and Canberra all divisions are named after people but importantly VERY FEW ARE NAMED AFTER POLITICIANS (dead PMs only), read through the list of current division names on wiki, and every page will tell you what the seat is named after, there's all sorts of people and the best bit is they roll of the tongue and avoid disputes over names, the AEC has a list of about 20 possible division names for future use which is really efficient

St Ives and Helston were both parliamentary boroughs. Unlike many in Cornwall, they were not rotten, and did not get abolished in 1832. They both survived until the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, when St Ives, the larger of the two, gave its name to the successor county division. Penzance was not a parliamentary borough, and much of its growth was dependent on the railway, only overtaking St Ives in population during the 20th century. But why don't they rename the seat?

Because we like history more than we like logic.
