Note that Hansard, still in private ownership then (albeit with a formal contract with Parliament), printed the Irish part properly after confirming with Thomas O'Donnell what he had said (the asterisk indicates the MP had revised their remarks).

From local paper 1945, (mostly) ladies losing a vote:- May have effected a couple or so of parliamentary constituencies. Possibly more effect for local elections.

It occurs to me that the last three MPs for Richmond Yorkshire have been the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Foreign Secretary, and the Home Secretary. Perhaps the next one will be Prime Minister.

Susan Lawrence is a notable local - she was brought up on Westbourne Terrace in Paddington where there is a blue plaque for her.

It is certainly a fascinating story, although by this point keeping the pre-1983 boundaries of Colne Valley together was impossible because Saddleworth had been transferred to Greater Manchester seven years earlier. The two Huddersfield constituencies being undersized compounded the problem.

A similar one at Abbey House in Whitby: Attachment DeletedThe best I can make out it says: I have filled up this schedule to the best of my ability, but herewith take the opportunity of protesting against the unjust exclusion of women from the full rights of citizenship Each census shews an increasing number of women earning their own living and taking obvious responsibilities as citizens and to exclude them from full political rights is an absurd anomoly, as well as a great injustice. There were 12 women at Abbey House, and only Miss Pringle as the householder had only the local vote, whereas her male servants had full local and Parliamentary votes. Tracing Miss Pringle in the 1921 census is one of my to-do notes.
