Not a party contested one I admit, but (after prompting Dorset Council to put up the well overdue info) Chideock Parish Council next week (Jan 23rd) will be contested. There are two candidates both with no descriptions: Peter Trevor Hunt and Tony Peacock. One interesting feature is that Mr. Hunt lives in Bath and North East Somerset, which has to be well over 50 miles away at its nearest boundary. Mr. Peacock lives within the parish.
Long Live King Charles!

Well full marks for trying to find an interesting feature anyway..
Its interesting at least from a psychological angle. What makes a man decide to stand for election to a parish council, an unpaid position with little power or prestige, at least 50 miles from where he lives?

It also raises the question of what criteria he's eligible to stand on. He doesn't live within 3 miles of the parish. He clearly isn't registered to vote there. 50 miles seems an awfully long commute between two places that aren't on the same major transport route if it's his main or sole place of work, and I've never seen anybody actually use the own/rent property qualification.
I suppose its possible he owns a holiday home in the area. Whatever his qualification, I can't see him beating a local unless there are unusual factors at play.

Good barchart material. Only the Greens can stop the Tories in Eastwood. Lib Dems can't win here!

The referendum on the Bridport Area Neighbourhood Plan, which encompasses Bridport itself, Bradpole (my parish), Allington, Bothenhampton and Walditch and Symondsbury, will take place on Thursday February 27th. A fairly notable plan, covering as it does a fairly large area, and rather strong on both environmental and heritage issues.

Lyme Regis Town Council will have a by election on February 13th
Unopposed. The elected councillor, Cheryl Reynolds, was the same councillor who resigned just after the elections last May.

I have been receiving targeted Facebook ads from the green party *for a town council by election* - a place called Newent and a candidate called Clare Stone (a suitably green name). Overkill?

Newent is in Gloucestershire, within the Forest of Dean district. A quick web search shows that there is a by-election in Central ward, with 3 candidates standing. Clare Stone is described as Independent, neither of the other two have any description. I have no idea if she is a Green member, but we do have active members there so she may well be, and surprisingly she is the only one of the three candidates who actually live in Newent (the others live in Upleadon and Westbury-on-Severn).

Tony Peacock elected with 93 votes, Peter Hunt 84. Suprised it was that close tbh.
