The only good result for the UUP last week. While their vote was up by less than 1%, it was enough as they should have won 2 seats in 2011 if Basil McCrea's ego hadn't got in the way. Butler and especially Palmer are good additions to the Assembly.
The DUP vote was down 6%, perhaps some of that due to Palmer's candidacy remind voters what corrupt Scunthorpes the DUP are - though this still remains their best constituency. the DUP balanced their vote between 4 candidates excellently but it wasn't enough to prevent a loss. I'm only sad the anonymous Craig lost out instead of that odious prick Paul Givan who topped the poll.
The SDLP and nationalist vote bucked the trend here, Pat Catney's vote increased by 1.4% - not all of that due to a declining Sinn Fein vote - the nationalist vote rose from 9.5% to 10.1%. Perhaps demographic changes to Lagan Valley are more than making up for nationalist apathy along with running a strong candidate.
