ITV's coverage of the 2019 general election results in three parts: To be honest - i found ITV disappointing: No SwingoMeter; generally not enough analysis, too much chatting; the "psephological" expert (prof. Rallings? or Thrasher?) totally quiet.

If you want to focus on speculation and general political discussion rather than detailed results, BBC was probably for you. Sky News was best for the number of declarations broadcast, but might be a turn off if you're not a Bercow fan. ITV was sort of in the middle in terms of speculation and detailed results. I quite liked the commentary by the lady professor.

Without intending to sound sarcastic, putting the figures up on-screen with a modern day David Butler interjecting “2.4% swing to Labour in that Midlands seat”, with a bit of chat in the hiatus between results, is far more informative.

I agree that would be fine, It’s interviews with politicians getting precedent over results that doesn’t float my boat particularly.

I tried to record Sky News's election show but my DVD machine wouldn't cooperate. Sky News don't like their election shows being uploaded to YouTube usually. I tried uploading the 1997 Sky election show once and it was taken down almost straight away. Just out of interest please AJS did that 1997 Sky broadcast confirm what I put in my exit poll thread that Sky forecast a 175 Labour majority before the results? Thanks Also if you have the time please and have a copy of the 2001 broadcast can you check if Michael Thrasher did indeed predict a 165 LAbour majority within a few minutes of the polls closing-thanks

I think the BBC showed 18 declarations on their 2019 election show.
Newcastle upon Tyne Central Houghton & Sunderland South Blyth Valley Swindon North Workington Rutherglen & Hamilton West Vale of Clwyd Putney (although it wasn't live, it was shown a few minutes after it happened) Richmond Park Islington North Don Valley Uxbridge & Ruislip South Dunbartonshire East Brighton Pavilion Stoke-on-Trent Central Finchley & Golders Green Plymouth Sutton & Devonport St Ives (think they showed it although can't find a video to confirm)
Of these arguably only 10 were interesting from a close result point of view.

I’m surprised they didn’t show all the Sunderland and Newcastle-on-Tyne declarations as they were in that limbo period between the exit poll and the flood of results. I suppose the three (then) Party leaders were justifiable, doubly so in Dunbartonshire East. Equally you can make a case for showing the only Green win. I’m glad I didn’t stay up and watch if that’s the best they could manage however, I think there were probably a similar number in 1964 and 66 so they’ve really regressed.

I find that really really odd. They had a 7 hour programme to fill. Glad I watched Sky. It’s a bit like Match of the day showing 5 mins of action and then 55 minutes of analysis.

I'm pretty sure BBC showed Bishop Auckland as I remember thinking the new MP looked young enough to be my daughter and feeling really bloody old. (In fact shes older than Mhairi Black...)
Mind you, that might have been by the time I was channel flicking.
They usually show far more. I took some notes rewatching their earlier coverage pre-election. In 1997, there was 45 on screen; 34 in 2001; 42 in 2005; 39 in 2010; 38 in 2015. I didn't get time to check 2017. For 2015, I was surprised by the ones I remember seeing not being on their show, I think I must have turned to BBC Scotland for the SNP landslide on the night.
Certainly saw my own constituency on the night in 2019 (Glasgow South West) but again, maybe it was on BBC Scotland instead...

I hope bbc parliament rerun election 2010 as its the tenth anniversary this year I think they said a while back that because of budgetary cutbacks they’d no longer be showing Election reruns, and that all time during parliamentary recess would be filled with Westminster repeats and Scottish Parliament/Welsh Assembly/Greater London Assembly (and perhaps Northern Ireland which I think was suspended at the time of the announcement).

Which seems a bit odd- do people get royalty payments if they do a re-run? Apart from possibly Rick Wakeman I can't think of anyone.
Ultimately hardly anyone wants to watch election re-runs but I guarantee that figure is ten times the number wanting to watch repeats of OFMDFM Questions or whatever low grade stuff they've got from Stormont.

It’s possible, as non-BBC staff, that Dimbleby, Butler, the estate of Antony King etc, are entitled to Royalty payments (although they’ll decrease as time goes on). It’s probably somewhere upthread but I suspect we made exactly the same arguments at the time of the announcement.

That is pure political positioning surely? The on-costs of running it must be minute. There are no copyright or contractural fees to negotiate. This is just the petty end of BBC officialdom trying it on. They really are pushing their luck now. If they lose the support of people like me on the right they have no support at all on the right. I have been at Conservative meetings as their sole supporting voice, and frankly now I am getting very pissed off indeed by licence fee, losing of old programmes, mucking up R3, going further and further downmarket and paying themselves far too much.
