Any guesses as to why? I mean there's the hint about big guns coming in, but the sitting MP doesn't seem the most likely candidate for defection and I can't think who currently in UKIP hierarchy might be looking for a seat there.
He does rather look like Nick Griffin's younger brother, though.

How Stephen Metcalfe voted on Foreign Policy and Defence #
Voted strongly for use of UK military forces in combat operations overseas Source Has never voted on replacing Trident with a new nuclear weapons system Source Voted moderately for more EU integration Source Voted moderately against a referendum on the UK's membership of the EU Source Voted very strongly against strengthening the Military Covenant
Voted very strongly for higher taxes on alcoholic drinks Source Voted very strongly for higher taxes on plane tickets
The new UKIP PPC is called Natasha Boulder. The only mention of Stephen Metcalfe defecting came from Harry Hayfield, a man who persistently gets the wrong end of every stick going.
Kerry Smith has not been deselected because Metcalfe has become the new UKIP PPC; Kerry Smith has been deselected because (as anyone remotely involved in any party from East Ham to Rayleigh will testify) Kerry Smith is a seriously weird, blabbermouthed, off-putting to normal people, monobrowed tosspot. I guess its only UKIP's policy of "our councillors are essentially independents" that stops his colleagues at County Hall defecting away from his weirdness.
Well I have know Kerry for many years, and he certainly has come a long way from being the doorman at Dagenham Working Mens Club !.He works very hard at what he does, I personally was a Labour Councillor in Dagenham. To me he is a nice guy, but yes perhaps a little eccentric, and not really PPC material in a winnable seat.
