The 'Downlands Residents Group' (Ind) councillor defending in Chipstead, Hooley & Woodmansterne was elected as a Conservative and left the Party in May 2011. One of his ward colleagues also did so but lost his seat in 2012 by 138 votes.
Two seats were won by a different party in 2012 compared to 2010. In Meadvale & St John's, the Lib Dems lost their seat to the Conservatives in 2012 by 13 votes. The Conservatives are defending Reigate Central, which was held by an Independent in 2012 by 226 votes. In 2010 and 2011 the seat was won by the Cons by 133 and 344 over the LDs.
