The Downlands Group consists of 3 former Conservative councillors, two are up in 2012 – Brian Cowle (Banstead Village) and Richard Wagner (Chipstead, Hooley & Woodmansterne). Cowle is retiring, Wagner will be seeking re-election. On paper both are safe Conservative seats.
If the 2011 results were repeated, the Greens would gain Redhill East from Cons. The one Independent seat in Reigate Central is up, Cons held it in 2011 with 344 majority over the LDs.
In Banstead Village, Cons won the seat in 2008 but incumbent is now RA (Downlands Group). He's retiring and no other RA/Ind is standing. The Cons incumbent in Redhill East - which the Greens won last year - is retiring.
Cons gain Meadvale and St Johns from LDs by 13 votes. Green gained Redhill East from Cons by 429 votes. The former Conservative who was defending his Chipstead, Hooley & Woodmansterne seat as Downlands Group was unseated by the Cons by 138 votes.
