Well, he wasn't one of the three Labour candidates for his ward, so strong possibility.

Don't know if it can really count as a defection, as Truro City Council seems to be officially non-partisan (or certainly the council website doesn't list any political affiliation for any of the councillors).

I question what he was doing in the Labour party in the first place Why shouldn't he have been in the Labour Party? His views are in line with a fair chunk of Labour voters, but it's fairly unusual to be an active member, or an elected representative, and be prepared to speak out negatively about large-scale immigration. Witness what happened to Lord Glasman when he suggested free movement of people across the EU had not been unremitting milk and honey for the English working class...

Not officially, though I think his good counsel remains sought by some who do. What happened is that various spinners briefed that he was a closet racist, 'not the full shilling', and released unused scripts for PMQs at which Ed Miliband was meant to joke about how he had been sacked from his job drafting Ed's tweets. Fortunately he was then savagely attacked by Diane Abbott, which is enough to rescue anyone's career.

I question what he was doing in the Labour party in the first place Why shouldn't he have been in the Labour Party? Well, he had been in a party which was doing what he supposedly fundamentally disagreed with for a very long time!

Why shouldn't he have been in the Labour Party? Well, he had been in a party which was doing what he supposedly fundamentally disagreed with for a very long time! Yeah I can see what you mean. I went from voting Lib Dem to being a Conservative member but I didn't have too many disagreements with the Conservatives when I was voting for the Lib Dems. It was a fairly easy switch. Some switches of party just sound mad.
