An impressive number of Green Party posters in St Bartholomew Ward, outnumbering the LibDem ones. The (ex) council estates don't tend to display posters though but normally vote LibDem. Throughout Winchester I have seen three Tory ones, about a dozen Green, and 20 or so LibDem. I was in Winchester last week and only spotted LD ones up in Kings Worthy. Nobody seemed to have anything out.

Jan Warwick, the Conservative victor in BFOB, has a large personal following and is well dug in. Admittedly that might be said of Mike Read, who was first elected as a LibDem but defected to the Tories, but I know nothing of the situation in Denmead whereas I live in BFOB - didn't have any communication from the Conservatives though.

There's also a planning issue in BFOB. The LibDem Council back proposals to build a science park on a derelict ex MoD site to which there is a lot of NIMBY opposition. As I said, I didn't see any Tory literature, but on past form they will have been opposing the idea.

LD hold The Worthys, St Paul. Tories hold Micheldever by 200 or so.
I make that Cons minus 4 with the LD's gaining 3 and Greens 1?

I don't keep records like I used to, but was Alresford actually a gain from the Conservatives?

It is amazing how people could be so het up about some scrubland by a bypass and a railway line.

Denmead: Michael Bennett (Lib Dem) - 1,006 Mike Read (Conservative) - 986 Andrew Kirby (Labour) - 147 Elizabeth Riley (Green) - 136 Lib Dem gain from Conservative Turnout - 33.2 per cent This is a hell freezes over moment. This has been such a safe place for the Conservatives for so long regardless of what has gone on elsewhere. Unless post-GE there's a big revival, next year will be a Tory wipeout in the HCC elections in Winchester City Council area.
