I may be very late to the party, but new boundaries for Tandridge are published In summary the new wards are: Bletchingley & Nutfield (3 member - as before) Burstow, Horne & Outwood (3 member - as before) Chaldon (1 member - as before) Dormansland & Felbridge (3 member - Dormansland parish and Felbridge parish) Godstone (3 member - as before) Harestone (2 member - as before) Limpsfield (2 member - as before) Lingfield & Crowhurst (3 member - an oddly named ward that includes Lingfield, Felcourt, Crowhurst and Tandridge village) Oxted North (3 member - loses Tandridge village) Oxted South (3 member - as before) Portley & Queens Park (3 member - Queen's Park ward and the east of the existing Portley ward) Tatsfield & Titsey (1 member - as before) Valley (2 member - as before) Warlingham East, Chelsham & Farleigh (3 member - as before) Warlingham West (2 member - gains a small part of Whyteleafe parish) Westway (3 member - gains the west of Portley ward) Whyteleafe (2 member - loses part to Warlingham West) Woldingham (1 member - as before) Given the precedent in Mole Valley, I am surprised by how many two and one member wards there are. However the interesting factor is how there will be 43 Councillors, one more than before. For those interested, you can read more here: www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/tandridge

This could be a very interesting election
The Tories, who have proved largely ineffective as the administration until 2021, will be punished for national issues and the failed Local Plan, losing seats in most areas, especially in Bletchingley & Nutfield and Lingfield & Crowhurst, which were directly affected by their plan
However, the Parish Council elections in Lingfield and Dormansland could see an interesting element that could hurt the incumbent OLRG administration. This is former District Councillor Liz Lockwood and her supporters
Lockwood is a Parish Councillor in both Lingfield and Dormansland, and previously represented Lingfield & Crowhurst from 2015-2023 first as a Tory then OLRG. Her followers have strong majorities on both Parish Councils and are well liked
The OLRG since they moved to remove Cllr Lockwood are not liked by her followers and they may run candidates in Lingfield & Crowhurst and Dormansland & Felcourt, and if they do, OLRG could lose seats
As the second placed party in 2023, I can see us doing well in Bletchingley & Nutfield and potentially taking the Tory held seat in May along with all of the seats in Caterham
I am predicting the following results:
Bletchingley & Nutfield - 1 OLRG,1 LD, I Ind Grp Burstow, Horne & Outwood - 3 OLRG Chaldon - 1 Con Dormansland & Felbridge - 2 OLRG, 1 Ind (aligned with former District Cllr Liz Lockwood) Godstone - 3 OLRG Harestone - 2 LD Limpsfield - 2 OLRG Lingfield & Crowhurst - 3 Ind (all aligned with former District Cllr Liz Lockwood) Oxted North - 3 OLRG Oxted South - 3 OLRG Portley & Queens Park - 3 LD Tatsfield & Titsey - 1 Ind Grp Valley - 2 LD Warlingham East, Chelsham & Farleigh - 2 LD, 1 Ind Grp Warlingham West - 2 Con Westway - 3 LD Whyteleafe - 2 LD Woldingham - 1 Con
17 OLRG, 15 Liberal Democrats, 4 Tories, 4 Lockwood aligned Independents, 3 Independent Group Independents

If so, I think they will all win three by a mile. Although the Lib Dems were second last time, they were a distant second and it is clear that they independents took a lot of the centre-right vote off the Tories, especially as their candidate was ex-UKIP. If there are only two independents/residents candidates, I think their voters would go back to the Tories for that third seat.

If there are only two independents/residents candidates, I think their voters would go back to the Tories for that third seat. The interesting thing about Tandridge Council's dynamics is that there are two different Independent groups on the Council and Bletchingley & Nutfield has Councillors from both of those groups. So there is the possibility of having four Independent candidates The current Tory Councillor doesn't do very much in the community and is hardly seen outside of where he lives, and the current OLRG Councillor is equally invisible to residents The Independent Group Councillor is ex-UKIP and arguably the most liked of the three current Councillors, but has come out with some mad statements over the years I would predict that we would make a gain here from the Tories purely because the Tory vote won't hold up in Bletchingley or North Nutfield to reelect the incumbent Tory Cllr and the fact that the Independent vote could split into several different ways, with the ex-UKIP Cllr gaining the most votes from Bletchingley residents

Planning issues still very much to the fore, with Tandridge's local plan mired in tension between the council leadership, opposition and DLUHC.
Tandridge is a good example of a council set up to fail on its district plan. The demand for housing is all up in the north near London, but attempting to meet it would end in the settlements coalescing into an amorphous "Croydon South Extra". That means looking for new settlements in the rural south of the district - which annoys the residents there. And because the wards are small enough it means the overcrowded "please build some more homes" people, the "don't merge our historic towns" people and the "don't build new settlements in the middle of nowhere" people all get substantial representation on the council.

Lib Dems only running 1/3 in Portley & Queens Park and 2/3 in Westway; both wards where I'd have expected us to win all 3 seats.

Is the Stoke on Trent of the south? :-)
Does it win for the most Residents groups in one authority.

It is interesting to note that 6 of the plethora of residents parties here all have the same Leader/Nominating Officer, Christopher Farr and the same Treasurer, Sue Farr. However they are all separate party registrations with the Electoral Commission and not merely different descriptions for one party.

On the council all eight councillors elected for the Residents' groups sit in the same group (together with ten of the 14 Independents).

Hmm Maybe some tightening of the registration rules are needed. You know me!

Along with Oxted & Limpsfield Residents Group, they sit as one grouping on the Council as the "Residents' Alliance" Chris Farr is the Deputy Leader of this Alliance and Deputy Leader of the Council currently

What on Earth is going on with the Tories? In my Bletchingley ward, they always used to have three councillors and are still in fact defending one seat. However, they only have two candidates when Labour and the Lib Dems have 3. Moreover, I have not had a single leaflet from them! The Lib Dems are working this ward hard. I have had loads of leaflets from them. It looks like Richard Fowler, who has stood every year for 20 years, will finally be elected. I am also quite surprised the residents group has only got one candidate.

I am pleased that you've been receiving lots of leaflets from us and Richard has been working extremely hard for the community In terms of the Tories, since 2016, they've started to collapse and then imploded during the 2022 elections and have struggled to recover since From what I have been told, the Tandridge Tories have been infighting a lot and I reckon they will continue the recent trend and suffer losses in May - one person suggested a repeat of what happened in Woking and Lambeth in the not too distant future
