It's hard to know how much of a purely personal vote McNeil has as opposed to a vote for the SNP as a party. I can't pretend to know for sure but I don't get the impression he's particularly loved. Will be very interesting to see when it happens. Indeed. Islands are different exhibit #365. Particularly these islands. Does anyone know how MacNeil’s Catholicism (he’s from very Catholic Barra) goes down with the Sabbatarian Protestants of Lewis and Harris?

The precedent there with Malcolm McMillan might not be terribly encouraging to MacNeil though. In an election *checks notes* over 50 years ago? It is still the most recent example we have, and this is a place where things are slower to change than most.

Malcolm MacMillan was an ex-MP when he fought this seat as an independent, unlike MacNeil.
