Sorry to see Gio Spinella leave Camden council. He's a good chap. He posted his resignation letter on Facebook - it's for personal reasons:
I have recently reached the conclusion that I am tired, I feel drained and I have nothing more to contribute. I could continue riding out my term but I feel this would be a disservice to Frognal, Camden and the H&H Conservatives. What is needed is someone with renewed vigour and dedication and that person is no longer me. I feel I need to take time for myself, to look after my own health and to start a new chapter in my life which will see me move out of London. This isn’t an easy decision. Being a councillor has been a part of my identity for almost a decade and a half, and it will have also financial repercussions. But as we gear up for a mayoral election, a general election and council elections in 2026, I feel I cannot give the contribution that is needed if our party is to start winning again. I will not hide my many disagreements with national policy over the last few years. However even through the worst of it, I have remained a member of the Conservative Party, hoping (shouting) for the party to be better at times, but also conscious that these battles are best fought from within than from without. My decision is therefore not a political one, simply a personal one, one dictated by a desire to move on in my life while I still can. I am 52 now. At the next council elections I will be 55. I want to make changes in my life while there is still time.

As a man of a similar age, who has devoted much of his time to a field of life that doesn't love me back, Gio's words struck a chord.

In a statement, a Cheshire West Labour Group spokesperson said: "Cllr Michael Edwardson has resigned from his role as a Cheshire West and Chester Council councillor due to health reasons.
The May 2023 result in Wolverham ward was Michael Edwardson (Lab) 668, Sam Corner (Con) 95, Alec Owen Jones (Lib Dem) 75. Majority: 573.

Broxtowe, Camden, Cheshire West & Chester, Croydon, East Devon, Lancaster, Salford, South Derbyshire, South Gloucestershire, Wandsworth are all on 2 May.
I think that leaves City of London, East Devon, Essex (Pitsea), Kensington & Chelsea, Lancaster, Manchester, North Lincolnshire, Sheffield, South Gloucestershire not yet confirmed for 2 May (along with any others that pop up at the last momnt).

I would assume every council would hold on 2 May for convenience, but nevertheless, some are cutting it quite fine to actually call them. I think apart from CoL every council has at least published the notice of vacancy.

City of London is unlikely to happen on 2 May due to the different system of election including polling hours. North Lincolnshire and Essex (Pitsea) were caused by unexpected deaths of sitting councillors so may not be ready.

I would assume every council would hold on 2 May for convenience, but nevertheless, some are cutting it quite fine to actually call them. It also depends on whether the electoral services are pushing firmly for the by-election then. I wouldn't be surprised if some have even written template letters for councillors/staff to just put their names to whereas others seem to expect everyone to browse obscure parts of websites then put their faith in Royal Mail.

Also the Brentford West by-election in Hounslow. EDIT: Sorry, seen you've already put this in your list!

Sheffield has finally got around to publishing their notice of election, which confirms that their byelection will be on 2 May. Dishonorable mention to Manchester, who still haven't published the notice of election even for the scheduled elections.

Are there two RBKC residents on here or known to people on here who would be willing to request the by election be held?

As a man of a similar age, who has devoted much of his time to a field of life that doesn't love me back, Gio's words struck a chord. Working at a job that drives you into a ditch, and staying in a marriage which drives you to an early grave, is reality for 90% of the population. Must British sitcoms wouldn't exist without tapping into the reality of how crap everything truly is!
