I remember Peter Lilley - his songs about Britpop and the River Cafe - Blairite stuff. He definitely sung! Didn't he also sing from the Mikado? I think he sang at Conference more than once. ”I have a little list” …yes he did sing, albeit rather stiltingly badly in terms of tune and timing.

Well there we are! It is all so subjective. For me, Jim Callaghan singing 'There was I waiting at the church' at the 1978 TUC conference seems like but a few years ago. I have to admit ,though, that seeing the leading figures of the day there - Len Murray - Ray Buckton - David Basnett - Sid Weighell etc - does rather bring it home to me somewhat. I can’t imagine any PM trying to sing in a speech now. Too risky. I guess the modern equivalent is May dancing to ABBA.

Lagan Valley (although to be honest not even I believe this)
"Hey folks, just a heads up, hearing from a source in NI that Jeffrey Donaldson has been arrested for serious crimes, the story is expected to break soon, but this could be the death of the DUP as we know it, and easily one of the darkest moments in British politics, not sure what our sensitivity guidelines are but if there was ever a time to implement them, now might be one of them" (posted online at 3.12am today)

So Harry you say even you don't believe it, well perhaps you should have done It is now being reported that an emergency meeting of the DUP is being held later today, so this is my problem I always have. When does a suggestion of a parliamentary by-election become one and when does it simply come from me not fully understanding the rules about suspensions from the House?

It's not odd. Stories like that frequently grace the front pages of the BBC NI website.

When does a suggestion of a parliamentary by-election become one and when does it simply come from me not fully understanding the rules about suspensions from the House? 1. Nobody knows, legally and correctly, if an MP is involved. 2. Andrew Rosindell was investigated for sexual assault and wasn't suspended from the House 3. As we keep saying across every page of this thread, not every single news story means a byelection and we should all learn (some more than others) to avoid viewing everything through a by-election lens

Was Rosindell ever charged though? There's a big difference between being investigated & being charged.

The English norm is to name suspects as soon as they're charged. Not sure if the Northern Irish norm is different.

Times Radio is reporting a seemingly mundane event of a man in a mundane place a long way from London being charged with historic sex offences. Something that probably happens every week in a mundane place a long way from London yet usually fails to get reported beyond said mundane place.

I'll just notice that there are people on reddit and such asking how old Mrs Donaldson is. It seems to not be readily publicly available information.

Bloody hell. Dark day indeed. Yes and No. It looks like a loathsome individual is going to get his comeuppance, and just two months after his most disgraceful act. There is much in that which I find joyous.
