Will he be standing for the Whigs? Toupee or not Toupee, that is the question.

It is certainly a calm assessment and worth reading for that, but they ignore the fact that Trump is effectively a politician - just not an elected one. It is also interesting that he says : Unfortunately for Trump, The Donald does not come across in public the way Mr. Trump does behind the scenes. a lot of people on "our" side said this about Gordon Brown, and it is often said about other politicians of all hues but if the public never see it and they choose rhetoric and bluster in public they only have themselves to blame. Also interesting that he says Rick Santorum is the other way round. It's evident that, despite the often odd behaviour and frequent failures, Donald Trump is a fairly sharp individual with a decent aptitude for business and working out what makes people tick. He's not as successful as he likes to make out, but he's done pretty well and it's a fool who writes him off as just a bizarre showman (although he is). He needs to start getting that across.

Your statement Neil is exactly the contradiction that is Trump. He is brash, rude, loud, in your face and so very American (in all senses). No one gets that prominence and that wealthy without being very sharp and getting the essentials right all of the time. He is very marmite and if that media person is to be believed (big call!) a far more rounded and decent human being than many perceive. I am not convinced by one such statement against a wealth of other experience. He is smart mover ad will have a precise agenda for a given outcome. He always does to be worth the time and the money to him! It is probably to advance a cause or a policy, or to shift the policy agenda by his contribution, or to wreck the campaign of some candidates he wants to stall......Or all three at the same time?

He seems to want to talk about interest rates and why they're too low. He actually came across pretty well on the TV a few days ago, although it seems that Carl Icahn doesn't want to be Treasury Secretary in a Trump administration. Icahn's follow up comments about interest rates were also interesting, I'll see if I can find a link.

A cash billionaire providing sound reasons for higher interest rates! What can he mean by it?

Chris Christie is now officially coming to the party.
The latest nationwide poll on the Republican nomination shows what a crowded field it is and how there is no clear favourite:
Jeb Bush 15 Donald Trump 11 Dr Ben Carson 10 Rand Paul 9 Scott Walker 9 Marco Rubio 8 Mike Huckabee 6 Ted Cruz 4 Carly Fiorina 3 Rick Santorum 3 Chris Christie 2 Bobby Jindal 2 John Kasich 2 Rick Perry 2 Lindsey Graham 1

Some real dross there. It's a shame John Kasich doesn't appear to have a prayer, I'd consider him to be a solid option.

You're more learned on American politics that I am, but he puts me in mind of William Scranton.

I make that two candidates who could actually beat Hillary and two more who might be able to beat one of the other Dems. Unfortunately for the 'Pubs their candidate might well be one of the other 11...

I had assumed that Chris Christie's chances would be fatally damaged by the traffic-jam scandal from a few years ago; I'm not sure how he has managed to bounce back to be an apparently viable candidate.

Well given his support in the poll quoted above, it appears real damage was done and his "viability" is at least in question.....

I was watching CNBC earlier and they were running an interesting story about New Jersey's debt obligations...the implication was that Christie's economic record won't bear much scrutiny.

No. If he were good enough, then he would win "despite" trivia like that anyway. If he loses, it's because he's not good enough anyway.
