So the Abolish Wales Party - sorry the Abolish the Assembly Party - have signed him up eventually. A smart move if he wants to keep his seat I suppose as UKIP is a dead duck. though surely he won't be top of their top up list Him and Lee Caning both live in South Wales Central. Genuinely no idea who would win in a selection between them. If I were abolish I’d focus on South East Wales, North Wales and Mid & West in that order. With a bit of cash, half a brain and a bit of luck they could win those three. They won’t win seven in the way UKIP won seven in 2016.

Who has the bigger ego, and will the loser walk and set up a new party? The populist right have a lot to chose from.

Accepted a police caution and has referred himself to Plaid’s disciplinary committee and been suspended from the party.

Accepted a police caution and has receded himself to Plaid’s disciplinary committee and been suspended from the party. Of course this is serious but it shouldn’t be and won’t be career-ending.

Julian Lewis, New Forest East, Conservative to Independent.
Does that mean the Conservatives can remove him from the committee and replace him with a 5th Conservative to get the proportional balance?

Does that mean the Conservatives can remove him from the committee and replace him with a 5th Conservative to get the proportional balance? committee members are nominated by the PM, then approved and appointed by resolution of the House of Commons. He could therefore only be rep, aced if he resigns from the committee or is removed by resolution of the House of Commons

Never been a great fan of his, though I remember him making a speech years ago about how mental hospitals had been places of asylum for vulnerable people which I very much agreed with (though obviously there was also plenty that was wrong with mental health provision as well, then and now), but anyone would be better than the terminally useless Grayling.

Well, the opposition are barely opposing the government, so he might as well!

Well, the opposition are barely opposing the government, so he might as well! I know you placed an exclamation mark at the end, but this is a bit wide of the mark. The BBC report, www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53422010 , makes it clear that Labour were the 'midwives' to his success. The swift suspension from the Conservative Parliamentary Party has Cummings' fingerprints all over it. They're obviously furious that their 'patsy', Grayling, was not appointed.

Ridiculous over-reaction to a frankly silly and ignominious event. I'm not the greatest fan of Mr Edwards or of those hard-left separatists, but the (lack of) public interest has taken a back seat in this all along.

Julian Lewis, New Forest East, Conservative to Independent. So in short Lewis is elected chairman of an influential committee and given a position where he could help or hinder the government. They deliberatly go out of their way to osterise him and remove any reason he has to play ball with them. How stupid are these people?

The one question I haven’t seen an answer to is can they now withdraw his appointment to the Committee because it’s reserved for the Conservative Party and he’s no longer a member of said Party therefore ineligible to take a spot reserved for the Party.

I suspect that's the entire point of his losing the whip.

The one question I haven’t seen an answer to is can they now withdraw his appointment to the Committee because it’s reserved for the Conservative Party and he’s no longer a member of said Party therefore ineligible to take a spot reserved for the Party. The Government could choose to try to remove him from the committee for that or indeed any other reason. But it would mean moving a motion to that effect, and a 90 minute debate, and a vote - so it would not just look incredibly vindictive, it would give more political pain and give a lot of opportunity for backbenchers to rebel. But they're so stupid they may still do it.
