Early results suggest that former state Rep Mike Braun will win the GOP senate nomination in Indiana. Politically there is little to choose between Braun and his two rivals, Rep Todd Rokita and Rep Luke Messer but Braun is arguably the best candidate because he can self fund and seems willing to do so having spent over $6 million of his own money on the primary.
In the the 6th district, vacated by Messer, the GOP primary has been won by Greg Pence, the older brother of the Vice President who represented this district when he was in congress.

In Ohio the race to succeed termed out Governor, John Kasich, will be between former Senator, Secretary of State and Attorney General, Mike DeWine (Republican) and former head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Richard Cordray (Democratic). The former beat Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor in a race that got pretty nasty, and the latter defeated former Representative Dennis Kucinich.

I wonder whether Pittenger will be joined on the primary losses front. It's not out of the question at all.

Representative Pittenger, who held the view that people with pre-existing conditions could move states if a waiver om health insurance was taken up in their state, will not be missed.

Does anyone know what sort of swing the Democrats would need to take control of the HoR compared to 2016?

And apparently it’s not racist because he doesn’t mention “an ethnic”; the only “ethnics” include “negro people” 😦 He's not racist because Chinese isn't a race. The Uighyurs say yes!

What potentially makes these elections unusual is that there’s all the signs of a much bigger swing against Trump in Republican suburban Districts, hence two or three in California, New Jersey, New York, even Texas that would not normally be considered vulnerable are very much on the radar for Democrats. (And add in the redrawn Pennsylvania map could give them roughly a third of the gains they need without breaking sweat).

Don Blankenship will run as spoiler in WV after losing the GOP primary to AG Patrick Morrisey. Should be interesting.

Excellent news. It's supposed to be illegal - under the 'bad loser' law - so it will end in a massive courtroom bunfight.

That’s not necessarily so clear cut; I had a Twitter conversation on Primary night with one of the correspondents for Stu Rothenberg/Nathan Gonzales’ Inside Elections who had been covering WV and she was being told that the State has no provision for official write-in candidates either.

Okay, I will ask some WV anoraks. But it seems unlikely the state can block it.

That's just plainly wrong. See document from WV elections office: sos.wv.gov/elections/forms/Documents/Running%20for%20Office/2018%20RFO%20FINAL%20DRAFT.pdf

Excellent news. It's supposed to be illegal - under the 'bad loser' law - so it will end in a massive courtroom bunfight. "The 2018 West Virginia legislature passed HB 4434, to make it clear that people who lose a primary (for office other than president) can’t petition onto the general election ballot. See this story, which says that it doesn’t go into effect for 90 days after it was signed. It was signed on March 22, so it won’t be in effect until late June.
But Don Blankenship, who ran for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate this year, might want to petition as an independent. Whether the old law would block him is not clear."

The question would be “when do you become a candidate?”; is it the moment you submit your correctly completed application form, or is it at the deadline for filing, and an equivalent of a SoPN is published. If the latter then Blenkinship will be caught by the 2018 Act as the filing deadline in WV isn’t until late September, thus beyond the 90 days of Governor Justice signing the Bill.

Most states don't have the latter, people are added on candidates list as soon as they fill.

Surely it is unconstitutional to block someone from running? It violates the first amendment and the equal protection clause at the very least.
