I was wondering if there are any maps available of the old Birmingham Wards before the 1982 boundary changes?

I was wondering if there are any maps available of the old Birmingham Wards before the 1982 boundary changes? If you can find a copy of Christopher Phillips's "Birmingham Votes 1911-2000" from the Elections Centre there are ward maps for all years there. Although not particularly detailed.

There are loads of maps in the Birmingham Central Library. I'm fairly sure I found one with old wards on it, although I can't remember which years.

Anyway, Birmingham Post used to do a yearbook. It usually included a ward map.

I've been meaning for ages to find some pre-annexation Sutton Coldfield maps and ward results. Anyone have any? There are now tons of results on the BNA website for 'Greater Birmingham'. Lots of unopposed returns in Sutton Coldfield. Just two contests in 1954 - Maney ward Con 946 Lab 616 Ind 614; Walmley ward Con 1700 Lab 1656. One contest in 1955 - Walmley Residents 2272 Lab 1898. Three contests in 1956 - Maney Con 763 Lib 692 Lab 515; Walmley Ind Res 1940 Lab 1482 and Hill ward Con 1883 Lab 752.

I was wondering if there are any maps available of the old Birmingham Wards before the 1982 boundary changes? Working-class politics in Birmingham and Sheffield, 1918-1931 (A PhD thesis written by John Boughton in 1985) might be of interest to you. Appendix A(i) is an outline map of ward boundaries. Appendix B is a map of both the parliamentary and ward boundaries. Appendix E(i) is a list of the winning party, or independent, in every ward from 1919-1931. The pdf file is 24Mb. wrap.warwick.ac.uk/34790/1/WRAP_THESIS_Boughton_1985.pdf#page=461

It's still markedly bluer than other large cities, but the whole idea of winning Sparkbrook is quite outlandish by today's standards. Much of it was the Chamberlain effect. Sparkbrook has changed somewhat since. The Tories made a halfway decent run at Sparkhill ward back in the mid-90's taking advantage of some local Labour difficulties and had some success with a good candidate, but he moved away and we moved in.

I'm aware it's changed, but I had expected it would have been sufficiently Irish to have been hopeless back then. And presumably that was the version of "Sparkhill" that included Moseley village (another place that has changed...). You'd be surprise how many Irish people voted Tory in the past. It included the Martin-de-Porres and Trafalgar road polling districts, yes. Many people from the Moseley Society back then would claim that they weren't core Moseley despite including a quarter of the Village. Traf Road contained a high proportion of Social Housing (for Moseley) and Martin-de-Porres contained a high proportion of Asians. The Moseley Society back then made the BNP look diverse. From ancient box counts, most of the Sparkhill Tory vote came from Sparkhill, although a decent proportion of it came from Martin-de-Porres. Moseley village, where I resided for a decade, if anything has gone upmarket than it was.
