Labour 45, Conservative 12 with the 2 marginals of Wanstead Village and Clayhall to come.
Labour win Fullwell and Barkingside, and pick up 1 seat each in Churchfields & South Woodford. Liberal Democrats wiped out, and don't even come close in their former south woodford seats. Conservatives hold Bridge narrowly, and Fairlop comfortably.
Sorry to see skybluecolu miss out in Churchfields by 10 votes
They also missed out on a seat in Wanstead Village by just 10 votes and lost one in South Woodford by 14
Thanks Pete. Wasn’t expecting to be a candidate at all this time around but stepped in at short notice after someone pulled out, and galvanised the campaign in a ward most on our side had pretty much written off. It’s annoying to miss out by so few votes but I managed to get two decent colleagues elected who otherwise probably wouldn’t have.
Where the Group goes from here God only knows. The only member who is remotely suitable for taking over as Leader isn’t interested in doing it. The status quo is not a viable option - there’s a reason why Redbridge still did as badly as expected while elsewhere in London the party generally did much better than feared. But the other two names I’ve heard being mentioned are equally unappealing for different reasons.
